The municipality of Navalacruz (264 inhabitants in 2006; 4,989 ha; 1,238 m a.s.l.) is located 44 km south-west of Àvila, in the valley of the Alberche.
Like several neighbouring villages (Navalacruz, Navalmoral, Navalosa...), Navalacruz is located in the "Navas de Ávila," "navas" meaning here "a flat land surrounded with mountains." The villages seem to have been founded by Blasco Ximenez around 1110 upon request of King Alfonso VI (1040-1109) and subsequently resettled by Gil Blázquez around 1350.
The population of the village remained constant (around 1,000) from 1960 to 1960 and dramatically decreased in the last quarter of the 20th century (700 in 1970, 453 in 1981, 325 in 1991).

The flag and arms of Navalacruz are prescribed by Decree 200/1999, issued on 5 January 1999 by the Provincial Government of Ávila and published in the provincial official gazette No. 16, 26 January 1999. The flag is rectangular, in proportions 2:3, made of a white field with a red cross throughout, of height 1/5 of the flag height, cantonned with four green walnuts uprooted.

The coat of arms is:
"Per pale, argent a cross gules, two mounts vert surmonted by a walnut eradicated of the same. The shield surmonted by a Royal crown closed."The cross is most probably canting (in Spanish, "cruz").
