The canton of Saquisilí was formed on 18 October 1943.
Translated from <www.municipiosaquisili.gov.ec>:
"The flag of the canton is in rectangular shape, with proportions 1:2, divided into two equal horizontal stripes. The upper stripe is yellow while the lower stripe is green. The two stripes are of equal size. Yellow represents the great wealth present in the place, which is the product of the inhabitants' strength and vitality. The wealth is not only made of money but also of the spiritual, moral, cultural and economical resources of the inhabitants [...]
Green represents the agronomic resources provided by the beautiful fields surrounding the town. They are formed of grasslands supplying the famers and all the citizens with bread and wealth. Green means the hope of the inhabitants to transform their homeland into the green blazon of our Ecuadorian nationality.
Finally, our flag represents virility and cleverness of the inhabitants. Yellow and green, joined with harmony, wealth and hope, force and power, joy and progress.
Heraldic symbols winners of the competition, 28 September 1958."
