Overview

The canton was formed on 8 August 1998.
Translation of the text (most probably a part of a Decree) from "La Hora" (defunct - reported by Olivier Touzeau, 4 March 2003):
"Flag.
Article 3. [This Decree] officializes the flag of the Canton of Cuyabeno, designed by Tito Leonidas Guerrero Espinosa and approved by the citizens via a canton's committee in a public session hold on 22 August 1998.
Article 4. The flag of the Canton of Cuyabeno has the following characteristics:
a) It is made of a rectangular piece, divided into four equal quarters, of colours bright green, light blue and yellow;
b) Over the quarters are placed transversally three white stars, representing the parishes of Tarapoa, Cuyabeno and Aguas Negras;
c) Bright green, colouring the upper left dexter and the lower right sinister quarters, represents the foliage of the ancient forest and the hope in a better future;
d) Light blue, colouring the upper sinister quarter, represents the rivers and lagoon of the Cuyabeno Reserve,
e) Yellow, colouring the lower left dexter quarter, represents wealth and prosperity."
If we follow verbatim the description, the image reported by Jens Pattke and Falko Schmidt on 5 July 2007 should be mirrored.
There is no source for the variant shown without the star.

At provincial website, the stars are in diagonal arrangement.
