Overview

The canton was formed on 27 April 1981.
The flag of Archidona is shown, as a drawing, on the municipal website, as horizontally divided green-white-ref (2:1:1) with five blue stars in the white stripe.
It is described as follows: "The staff, of black colour, symbolizes the obstination of the native lineage, the oil resources and a tribute to the folklore festival. Green symbolizes the exuberant vegetation, the mythic and mysterious ancestors, the exotic beauty of the tourism resources and a unique biodiversity. White expresses the purity of the eternal snows and the crystalline waters of the sources and waterfalls. Red symbolizes the virtue, the blood shed by the heroes for the defense and integrity of their lineage and the harmonic development of the region. The five stars in the central stripe symbolizes the parishes forming the Canton of Archidona."
The shield of the municipal coat of arms is flanked by two municipal flags. Exact location and size of the stars not known
Note that the Canton of Archidona is currently made of only three parishes of Archidona, Cotundo and San Pablo de Ushpayucu!
The Previously Reported Flag of Archidona is horizontally divided yellow- white-green with five blue stars in the middle.
The source is given as the PDF document available on the website of the Association of Ecuadorian Municipalities.
In the document currently available, the flag is shown as horizontally divided green-white with a yellow triangle placed along the hoist (Reported WRONG Flag). The coat of arms, flanked by the municipal and provincial flag, is also completely different from the one shown on the municipal website. These symbols are indeed those of the Canton of Carlos Julio Arosemena Tola. The very same PDF document  is available with the heading "Cantonal symbols of Carlos Julio Arosemena Tola" on the website of the Association of Ecuadorian  Municipalities.

The second PDF document is from two months later, the choruses of the anthem are ordered differently, and it doesn't have the reference for the Kishwa words. But there's not much difference between the flags. (The illustration of the arms is slightly brighter, though, which is especially noticeable for the green.).
