Overview

The Canton General Antonio Elizalde was established in 1995 ( as the last canton established in Guayas). Previously the Canton was part of Milagro Canton.
The flag of canton of General Antonio Elizalde (Bucay) is horizontally divided white-green with the Cantonal Coat of Arms in the center und the yellow inscription "1. Municipalidad del Canton Bucay" (top, above the Coat of Arms) and "General Antonio Elizalde" (bottom, under the Coat of Arms).

"The flag was adopted by the municipal council in 1996 as white and green, green representing the greenness of the fields and white the nobleness of the inhabitants.
The middle of the flag is charged with a shield whose main elements is the the railway crossing the Ecuadorian paramounts to the entrance of the coast at Bucay. The fruits of the region, including citrus, bananas, sugarcane, American narrow-leaved bamboo ("guadua"), yucca, passion fruit, cocoyam "guineo orito" bananas heart of palm, cocoa, among other products exported to the European and Asiatic markets. The various grasslands use for cattle-breeding, an activity transformed locally in a main production area for milk and cheese. Bucay is watered by a wide range of rivers and marshes supplying in vital liquid all along the year."
