wavy stripes; a lot of rectangles, all blue.

I found that Neale Rosanoski indicates in his album 3 waves for Nielsen's
house flag with the following note: "Brown shows the design as taking most of
the flag field and funnel band and shows only two wavy lines in base. (Brown
1995 No. 676 notes). History: ?-1985-1992-?" Josef Nusse show on its website
http://flags.seeleute.net/109.htm a flag with 3
waves like Nielsen Chartering. Echoship would be the
continuation of Nielsen Chartering.

Flag uncertain:

The flag is peculiar in being basically a Danish naval
rank flag without any charges: a red flat-based swallowtail with a white
cross. Is this really the flag?
Jorge Candeias, 3 December 2005
Quoting from the 'Profile' section of the
Nordana website:
"The name Nordana Line is taken from its NORwegian and DANish background. The
service started in 1957 as a joint venture between Norwegian Fearnley & Eger and
Danish DFDS. Later on F & E decided to withdraw and the service continued under
Danish management, but the name remains as strong as ever. Initially the service
was based on carryings from Mediterranean to Caribbean, Central America and
Mexico, and the vessels returned to Mediterranean via USA/Scandinavia. With the
upswing of oil and gas exploration in North Africa, a direct service from USA to
Mediterranean was implemented in 1961, and the calls at Scandinavian ports were
suspended. In 1969 four conventional sister vessels with 85 tons heavy-lift
capacity were introduced in the service to accommodate the increasing demand for
larger and heavier pieces of cargo to North Africa. (...) Nordana Line has since
expanded the geographic scope, improved the frequencies and widened its services
to become one of the premier Multipurpose RoRo liner carriers. Today Nordana
Line is recognized as a specialty carrier..."
Head office in Rungsted Kyst, Denmark. The
Nordana website shows a tiny
flag on a dark blue background - perhaps the swallowtail is really placed
on a blue field?
Jan Mertens, 3 December 2005
Jan could be right: the corporate newsletter of Dannebrog Lines:
http://w3t.org/?c=dannebrog. shows the
logos of both Dannebrog and Weco
lines (both parts of Nordana). The Dannebrog logo is a swallowtailed Dannebrog
on a blue rectangle, and the Weco logo is a rectangular Dannebrog on a blue
rectangle. I guess a Danish company called Dannebrog had to use some
adaptation of the national flag as their logo.

White flag with a big red O in the middle and a blue vertical stripe placed
along the hoist, charged with a representation of the constellation of Orion in
white. Orion was a giant hunter who offended the goddess Artemis. As a
punishment, she killed him and changed him into a constellation. The three stars
placed in diagonal in the middle of the constellation are known as Orion's Belt.

The website of the National
Maritime Museum describes the house flag of "the house flag of Ostasiatiske
Kompagni A/S Det, Copenhagen. A white flag with a blue anchor placed diagonally
and fouled by a chain and the letters 'O/. K.' below. The flag is made of a wool
and synthetic fibre bunting. It has a cotton hoist and is machine sewn. The
design is printed.

Ostasiatiske Kompagni A/S, Copenhagen: white, a blue fouled anchor placed in
a diagonal position (the flukes toward lower right), in the left lower corner
the blue letters
ØK. Two versions are shown on Josef Nüsse's
site under 'Flags', 'Danish Shipping Companies', 'Seite 6': first, the flag with
the letters nearer the anchor, which is bigger and has a chain rather than a
cable, second, said flag in a split Dannebrog's upper hoist corner and golden
letters D.Ø.K. in the cross's centre,
horizontally arranged.

Östasiatiske Kompagni. The 2nd flag mentioned by Jan has the company house
flag in the canton flying from a pole which is angled bendwise. This differs
from that shown in "Das große flaggenbuch" which only has a panel of the flag
and is defined as used by sailing vessels in overseas service. I suspect it may
have been used as an Ensign including for motor vessels judging by an
illustration of the "Selandia" 1912 in "Merchant Ships of the World in colour
1910-1929" by Laurence Dunn which has the houseflag flying from the mainmast and
what seems to be this 2nd flag as the Ensign from the stern.

P. Brown Jun. & Co. Refer my comments for Dampskibselskabet "Norden" for this
appears to be their flag. Brown was an operator for other companies as well
which also had their own flags, one of which has been shown under the name of
the operator. They go back to 1893, originally as Peter Brown, and Lloyds 1912
does show under P. Brown Jnr & Co. a red flag with a white "B" which would
appear to actually be theirs.
