At the Schleswig official website (...) colours given for the logo are (CMYK) blue 100-80-0-0, yellow 0-0-100-0. The flag colours on that page look identical. The flag seems to have been adopted in the 1930s; the colours are the colours of the duchy, later regional division, of Schleswig.

The flag of Schleswig is blue-yellow. Schleswig is not a county-free city, it is in Schleswig-Flensburg county. The colours are obviously derived from the duchy of Schleswig. Source: Staack 1997.

From Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website: " Schleswig was already an important town in the 10th century and seat of a bishop since 934. In 1100 the city was enlarged and became the capital of the newly formed Duchy of Schleswig, formed by the Kings of Denmark. The oldest seals date from the early 13th century and already show the same composition. The present arms were granted in 1935 and based on the oldest seal. The colours are not historical, but are based on the colours of the Duchy of Schleswig. The castle is the local castle, the moon and crescent are probably religious symbols. The waves symbolise the bay of Schlei.
