The title of a city was granted to Salzuflen by the counts of Sternberg
in 1322.
Description of flag:
The ratio is 3:5. It is a horizontal blue over white over blue flag
with the coat of arms shifted to the hoist. The ratio between the stripes
is 1:2:1. The flag was granted on 31 March 1970.

Description of coat of arms:
In a blue shield is a red hexagonal well, flanked by two silver (=white)
gallow trees on which golden (=yellow) buckets are hanging at golden(=yellow)
ropes. Above all is a golden (=yellow) 8-point star.
Meaning:
The ensemble was used to produce salt. The star is taken from the coat
of arms of the counts of Sternberg.
