*A "Verbandsgemeinde" (VG) is a combination of several municipalities to an administration community in Rhineland-Palatinate.

A municipality (Ortsgemeinde) in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, Rettersen flies a white flag – higher than wide, but not the unual Knatterfahne – bearing the arms.  Photo detail found here. Direct link to coat of arms (much reduced):
Gules a bendlet sinister argent, in chief a lion contourné and queue-fourché guardant or, langued and armed azure; in base a twig of oak showing four glands and four leaves or.
The place name ‘RETTERSEN’ is surely not part of the arms but I get the distinct impression that it is placed on the flag exactly like the arms in our example!
A further detail, the glands and leaves represent the four villages making up the municipality i.e. Rettersen itself, Hahn, Roßberg, and Witthecke.
And the lion alludes to the noble Sayn family whereas the bendlet represents the old road traversing the village, now Bundesstraße 8.  Date of grant, 23 May 2002.
Official Rettersen website. Siegfried’s Homepage, concerning the arms: click ‘Wappen’ (arms), then select ‘Rheinland-Pfalz’ on the map and look for Rettersen in the left menu.  G= Gemeinde= municipality.
