Greetsiel village
Greetsiel (Municipality of Krummhörn; Aurich county; Lower Saxony)
Greetsiel is located at a small bay in the northwestern part of Krummhörn
municipality.
Description of flag: It is a black over red over blue horizontal tricolour
with a coat of arms in the centre, shifted to the bottom. The shield’s
top edge is the top line of the red stripe. In the centre of the black
stripe is the name of the village in white capitals.
Description of coat of arms: In a silver shield is a blue ship, shaped
like a “Kogge” of hansa traders, with three masts, being topped by blue
spur wheels with yellow dots in the centre. In the centre of the main mast
is the shield of the Cirksena family, carrying a golden harpy in a black
field.
Note: The flag was only used as a jack of local tourist ships. Probably
neither Greetsiel nor the municipality of Krummhörn have flags of their
own. I spotted this flag in Greetsiel harbour on 14 September 2009.
