Großefehn municipality

Municipality of Großefehn (Aurich county; Lower Saxony)
Description of flag: It is a red over yellow horizontal bicolour with the coat of arms in the centre.
Description of coat of arms: In a golden field is a red wind mill in Dutch style having a gallery. The shield has a red chief showing three golden acorns ordered horizontally. The chief is divided from the rest of the shield by a wavy line.
Meaning: The windmill is symbolizing the typical wind mills on the municipality’s territory. Today there exist already ten mills. The wavy line is symbolizing the numerous channels (Frisian: Fehne, sg.: das Fehn; German: Venn) of the municipality which gave it the current name.
The acorns are symbolizing, that Großefehn belongs to Aurich county. Two of them can also be found in the county’s coat of arms.
The coat of arms was adopted by the local council on 14 August 1973.
Source: I spotted this flag at least eight times at Mittegroßefehn main street and at various parts of Ostgroßefehn. Some say the official flag would be a plain red over yellow bicolour.
