Řeka is a charming, typical mountain village lying on the river of the
same name, which is hidden in deep valleys in the shade of forested spines
of the foothills surrounding the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountains reaching
altitudes of a thousand metres above sea level. A significant part of the
village area belongs to the protected landscape area of the Beskydy Mountains
and it is one of two villages of the micro-region of the villages in the
Stonávka River basin with the widest offer of tourism in the sphere of
hiking, holidaymaking and recreation.
At present there live almost 500 permanent inhabitants, but the village
comes alive particularly with the intensive tourism not only in the winter
and in the summer tourist season, but also in the early spring and in the
late autumn owing to the local cottagers. In the village itself there is
a number of typical old timbered cottages, some of which serve their original
purpose even today, some of them are holiday cottages of the inhabitants
of the nearby Ostrava agglomeration. In the village there are also several
resort centres and chalets used for holidaymaking and tourism, which are
hidden in the nearby mountains, and also an open-air swimming pool with
warmed-up water.
Mountain spines, valleys as well as slopes offering beautiful views
of the surrounding countryside and picturesque hidden natural recesses
are accessible by a number of footpaths, cycle tracks as well as horse
riding tracks. In winter they are interwoven with a network of cross-country
skiing tracks, ski slopes and lifts. Also the nearby villages in the foothills
have something to offer to their visitors - places of tourist interest,
a number of events of social life and pleasant environment, which can enrich
the visitors stay in Řeka.
