Founded in 1989, the Cyprus Shipping Council (CSC, today the Cyprus Shipping chamber) now comprises all the major shipowning, ship management and shipping related companies based in Cyprus, thus making it one of the largest national shipping associations in the world. The members of the Council own and/or manage from Cyprus 2,168 vessels exceeding 42.9 million gross tons.
Its position allows the CSC to cooperate with various authorities, national and international, and numerous public and private stakeholders in the maritime, political, economic, social, and other spheres.
A member of the International Chamber of Shipping, the Council with the Cyprus
Union of Shipowners represents the country at the EU Shipowners' Association as the Joint Cyprus Shipowners' Association.
The flag of the former Cyprus Shipping Council is white with the CSC logo above dark blue words "Cyprus Shipping Council". The CSC logo consists of stylized dark blue initials "CSC" above one light blue wave and one dark blue one.
