Escuela Latinoamericana de Medicina (ELAM - Latin American
College of Medicine) was created in the 1999 by President Fidel
Castro. The first class graduated in 2005. Each class has 1,500
students. ELAM is located in Santa Fé, north-east of La Havana,
on grounds formerly owned by the Naval Academy
"Granma". ELAM websit is at <www.elacm.sld.cu>.
The flag of ELAM is white
with an emblem made of two white hands outlined in green holding
the Earth, white outlined in red. Central and South America is
shown in plain red on the Earth, while Cuba is shown in plain
green. There is a Rod of Ascelpius emerging from Cuba, with the
staff red and the snake green. Below the emblem is written:
ESCUELA LATINOAMARICANA DE MEDICINA (in red) CUBA (in green).

The coat of
arms of ELAM has nearly nothing to do with the emblem shown
on the flag.
