Overview

Nóvita is a municipality in the Chocó Department. It was established on 30 September 1857.
Nóvita flag is horizontal yellow-white-green with inner ratio of 2:1:1.

Translated from this web site: "Yellow means gold, platinum and natural resources. White means the region peace and tranquillity Green means biodiversity, the forest and all its hydrographic resources."
Gold mining is a main component of the town history. Nóvita was mentioned for the first time in 1605, when Don Arias de Silva discovered a gold mine on the banks of River Tamanà in a place called San Francisco de Nóvita; the mine was probably founded in 1572.
