Translated from this web site: "Yellow means gold,
platinum and natural resources. White means the region peace and
tranquillity Green means biodiversity, the forest and all its
hydrographic resources."
Gold mining is a main component of the town history. Nóvita was
mentioned for the first time in 1605, when Don Arias de Silva
discovered a gold mine on the banks of River Tamanà in a place
called San Francisco de Nóvita; the mine was probably founded in
1572.
