Overview

The municipality of Villa Rica is in Cauca Department. this former part of Santander de Quilichao, became a municipality by ordinance 021 of 11 November 1998.
The flag of Villa Rica is horizontally divided yellow-green-red was adopted on 16 February 2001.

The flag, adopted on 16 February 2001 following a public contest, is made of three equal horizontal stripes with the following colours:
- Yellow, symbolizing our resources, the essence of our land, the strong power of our ethny, always lit by proper light;
- Green, universally associated with the natural environment, represents life and the lake ecosystem surrounded by its rivers and wet areas that represents the advance of industrialization proper to all times;
- Red represents excellence, strength, human energy and continuous movement, transforming force generating change in peoples' mental structure.
