The animal on the flag of Roveredo Capriasca is a he-goat as well, the oak branch alludes to the origin of the name coming, according to the popular opinion, from "rovere" (a variety of oak called robur).
Pascal Gross, 30 June 2003
The robur oak is the durmast, also known as the sessile oaktree. The taxonomy of the European oaks is difficult since the distribution areas of the different species overlap, allowing hybridization and intermediate types.
The durmast is Quercus robur L. (synonym, Q. pedunculata Ehrh.). It is called in French "chene rouvre" or simply "rouvre", and a forest of such poaks is called a "rouvraie". The name of the forest of Rouvray, located on the left bank of the river Seine, as well as the names of the villages of Rouvray, Rouvre, Rouvrel, Rouvres, Rouvrois and Rouvroy are probably derived from the "rouvre". The last duke of the first House of Burgundy was Philippe de Rouvres (1346-1361).
