If you take a good look, the one with the Customs Cap badge (Maple Leaf) in the Fly is the one used on the Pacific, dated approximately 1999 and is the newer one. Furthermore, the Customs Badge (Maple Leaf) does not have a CROWN on it. The Flag that is used else where in Canada, has a CROWN on top of the Portcullis and is the older one. This flag is dated early 1990's, and is the updated Canadian version, of Her Majesty's Customs and Excise Flag - United Kingdom. The Union Jack was removed and the Canadian Flag was put into the Canton. This was done to update the flag and to make it more Canadian. It was hidden from view for a few years, until I found it, copied it and it spread from there. There might be a new updated flag coming out soon, that will hopefully see an end to the 2 flags issue. I have ! heard through the Grape Vine, that the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency has approached the Chief Herald of Canada, for a Grant of Arms for official Canada Customs insignia (Flags, Badges, Coat of Arms etc.). I am sure the crown issue will be addressed, as it was removed from all Customs insignia Nov 1/1999. As a matter of fact, I put a proposal for this very issue to my Regional Director concerning the identity issue approximately 3 years ago. Just for your info, the Customs Flag with the Crown and Portcullis was carried at last year's Police and Peace Officers Memorial Parade in Ottawa, 3rd weekend in September, and hopefully it will be carried again this year. I am sure by now you know I am a Customs Officer. I have been working on the identity issue for some time now and I will continue with it into the future, as I am collecting images and memorabilia for my collection.
