About the Flag of Ecoporanga

The flag is green with a horizontal white-red-white band across the center and a white triangle at the hoist bearing the municipal coat of arms. The coat of arms is per fess indented, white with a green nhambu bird, and green with a barrulet wavy. On a red chief is an outline map of the municipality in white. The nhambu, a bird of the partridge family, refers to a traditional but apparently erroneous explanation of the name of the municipality, combining the Portuguese word eco (echo) with an alternative Indian name for the nhambu, thus "the place where one hears the echo of the nhambu." However, in Tupi the name would mean beauty or virtue, or "the prosperous place." The white wavy bar apparently represents the Rio Dois de Setembro, which passes through the city, while the indented partition line portrays the mountains of the municipality.
