The 34th flag mentioned and illustrated in the Book of All
Kingdoms [e9s50] is attributed to
"Boxina", late 14th cent..
Anto'nio Martins-Tuva'lkin, 18 November 2004
The Hakluyt Society seemed to place this in Dalmatia in their
cross-reference, but refer to it as the Boxnia (Bosnia) Mts. How
correct?
Anyway, two of the four rivers in the description are the Sava
and Raab. Rabeza is listed by Hakluyt as a tributary of the Raab,
leaving the Ur
river, not directly cross referenced in the Hakluyt document
footnotes, but cross referenced as the Drava.
Phil Nelson, 18 November 2004
According to Nat Geo 1917 [gmc17]
Boxina is Bosnia.
Ned Smith, 19 November 2004
According to the description Boxina could be Bosnia at the
time rules by members of the Frangopan family (see: Slavonia - Historical Flags) - the
device shown in the Book might be a differentiating device of the
same Coat of Arms as Slavonia. The author descries population of
that land as "not Catholic Cristians", but that does
not mean Muslims at the time yet, rather of the Patarens
(Bogomilism) sect that was spead in Bosnia before the Ottoman
rule.
