Description of arms (German): | Im schwarzen Schild auf naturfarbenem Boden die Gestalt des Kirchenpatrons von Zell am See St. Hippolytus, und zwar eines rechtsgewendeten nimbierten, geharnischten Ritters mit roter, hermelingestulpter Kappe und über die linke Schulter geworfenem und in weiten Falten bis zum Boden herabhängendem Roten Mantel. In der Rechten hält der Ritter die weiße Kreuzesfahne mit einem roten Kreuz und in der Linken, die auch den Mantel hält, ein an die Schulter gelehntes Schwert. [1] [2] |

As with most municipalities in Salzburg, the coat-of-arms of Zell am See comes in different versions, some of them in accordance with the
official blazon, others less so. In some cases these different versions of the arms are also shown on different versions of the municipal flag.
The most frequent versions of the flag show the arms as currently shown on FOTW-ws. As frequently, there are minor variations of these pattern,
though: one version is decidedly shorter than the one shown.

Rather more different is the flag officially hoisted at the town hall
[7]: the version of the arms is the one also shown at the municipal
website, but it differs in many aspects from the other version. In particular the guidon held by Saint Hippolytus is yellow-gold instead of
white. The flag is a hanging flag hoisted from an oblique staff.
